Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested in Texas for alleged assault involving a household member. His attorneys deny the claims, citing ongoing legal and public relations challenges.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested in Texas on Friday for an alleged assault, according to online jail records. The 21-year-old NFL star was booked by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of assault involving a household or family member. The allegations claim that Worthy restricted the alleged victim's breathing, a serious accusation under Texas law.
The charge, categorized as a third-degree felony, carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. As of Saturday morning, jail records showed Worthy had not posted bond, and details surrounding the arrest remain sparse.
Worthy, who gained fame during his college football days with the Texas Longhorns, is now facing one of the most challenging moments of his young career. Shortly after news of the arrest broke, his attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, issued a statement defending their client. They claim the allegations are "baseless" and point to an apparent dispute between Worthy and the complainant, who they allege refused to leave Worthy’s home despite repeated requests.
According to the attorneys, the complainant was involved in “extortive efforts” and had been asked to vacate Worthy’s residence after he discovered her infidelity, backed by video evidence from a private investigator. The statement also alleges that the complainant caused property damage, physically harmed Worthy by scratching his face and ripping out parts of his hair, and destroyed a room in his home.
"We are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest," the attorneys stated. "We are cooperating fully with law enforcement in Williamson County and have confidence that the investigation will vindicate Mr. Worthy." They also noted that Worthy had informed authorities he did not wish to press charges against the complainant.
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a brief statement, saying, "We are aware and gathering information." Worthy, a first-round draft pick, finished his rookie NFL season with an impressive 638 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, including three rushing touchdowns. Despite his promising start, this legal situation could cast a shadow over his career if not resolved swiftly.
For now, the NFL community and fans alike are left waiting to see how this unfolds. One thing is clear: both the legal and public relations battles have just begun for the young wide receiver.

This situation with Xavier Worthy feels like a textbook example of how fame and personal drama can collide in spectacularly unfortunate ways. While the legal system will decide the truth, the allegations from both sides paint quite the chaotic picture. And the detail about hiring a private investigator? That’s some next-level soap opera energy right there.
