Zac Brown honored with Veterans Voice Award for his work supporting veterans through Camp Southern Ground, highlighting their sacrifices and resilience.

Country music star Zac Brown is set to receive the inaugural Veterans Voice Award at the American Music Awards this Memorial Day, a nod to his tireless work supporting veterans. Brown, whose heartfelt performances and storytelling resonate with millions, doesn’t just sing about the American spirit—he lives it through his dedication to those who serve.

“Our veterans are the backbone of the freedoms we cherish,” Brown shared in an exclusive interview. “They sacrifice so much—family time, mental wellness, sometimes their lives—so we can chase the American dream. Honoring them isn’t just a privilege; it’s a duty.”

Through his Camp Southern Ground in Georgia, Brown has created a haven for veterans and their families. For over a decade, the camp has hosted 34 weeks of veteran programs annually, including the Warrior Path initiative, which aids service members transitioning to civilian life. “We help them find purpose, community, and a new chapter,” Brown said. The camp’s Warrior Song program lets veterans weave their stories into music alongside professional songwriters, giving voice to experiences often left in the shadows.

Brown’s connection to the military runs deep. From performing for troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait to hearing their stories firsthand, he’s seen the weight they carry. One veteran’s metaphor stuck with him: “My friend Ollie said he keeps his demons chained in front of him, not behind, so he can face them daily. That’s the kind of resilience we’re honoring.”

The Veterans Voice Award, presented by the Easy Day Foundation, celebrates artists like Brown who amplify veterans’ stories. The AMAs event, airing live on CBS and Paramount+ on May 26 at 8 p.m. ET, will feature performances and stories from active-duty service members and veterans, with ticket proceeds supporting organizations like the Bob Woodruff Foundation and Team Rubicon.

“This award isn’t just about me,” Brown emphasized. “It’s about shining a light on the incredible people who protect our way of life. America’s the only place where someone like me can make music for a living, and that’s because of them.”

Zac Brown’s out here strumming heartstrings and lifting veterans up—talk about a ‘Chicken Fried’ hero! Why don’t we all take a cue from his camp and start chaining our own demons in front of us, like Ollie? Maybe then we’d all sing a little freer.
