ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard has stepped away from the Elevation Tour for a medical procedure. John Douglas will fill in as the band wishes Beard a speedy recovery.

ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard, 75, has temporarily stepped away from the band’s Elevation Tour due to a health-related matter requiring medical attention. The announcement was made through the band’s official Instagram account, citing an upcoming medical procedure as the reason for his absence.

"Shelter Music Group, ZZ Top’s management, has announced the band’s drummer, Mr. Frank Beard, has temporarily stepped away from the current tour to attend a health issue requiring his focus in the near term," the post shared.

As the trio of Beard, Billy F. Gibbons, and Elwood Francis continues their tour, longtime band associate and fellow Texan, John Douglas, will be stepping in as drummer during this period. Douglas has a history with the band, having worked closely with them in the past, and is described as maintaining a strong relationship with Beard and the other members.

"He is looking forward to a speedy recovery," the message concluded, expressing optimism about Beard’s return to the stage.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time ZZ Top has had to navigate health challenges. In 2021, the band suffered the loss of bassist Dusty Hill, who passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at his home in Houston, Texas. The band issued a heartfelt statement then, mourning their "compadre" and celebrating Hill’s "monumental bottom to the 'Top.'" At the time, Hill was dealing with a hip-related health issue.

Fans of ZZ Top are surely hoping for Beard’s quick recovery and a seamless return to the band’s high-energy performances. Meanwhile, John Douglas seems ready to keep the beat going in true ZZ Top fashion.

It’s always a little bittersweet when a beloved band faces health setbacks, but I can’t help but admire how ZZ Top keeps rolling with the punches. Frank Beard’s resilience and the band’s seamless backup plan with John Douglas show their commitment to fans and music. Let’s hope Beard gets back to pounding those drums soon—ZZ Top just wouldn’t be the same without him!
