Idaho Smokehouse Partners recalls over 14 tons of Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild due to metal fragments. Affected products were distributed in California and Illinois; no injuries reported.
Idaho Smokehouse Partners LLC is recalling over 14 tons of ready-to-eat beef sticks following reports of metal pieces found inside the product. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall of 29,541 pounds of Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild on Thursday.
The issue came to light after the company received two consumer complaints about metallic fragments in the snack. These beef sticks were produced between January 13 and January 15, 2025, and carry an expiration date of February 10, 2026.
Consumers can spot the recalled product by checking for lot code 25016 on the label and establishment number 6220A ink-jetted on the front of the vacuum-sealed packaging.
The affected beef sticks were distributed to retail locations in California and Illinois. FSIS warns that some of these products may still be lurking in consumers' pantries. They have advised the public to either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far, but FSIS recommends contacting a healthcare provider for anyone concerned about potential harm.
Idaho Smokehouse Partners released a statement saying they acted "out of an abundance of caution" and are coordinating with regulators to safeguard consumers. They emphasized their commitment to maintaining the highest food safety standards.
It's not every day you hear about metal bits sneaking into your snacks. Beef sticks with a side of iron? Hard pass. Let’s hope the company nails down the cause pronto.
