Billy Joel, the legendary voice behind hits like "Uptown Girl," is addressing concerns about his health after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain condition that has impacted his vision, hearing, and balance. The 76-year-old singer revealed this challenging diagnosis back in May, leading him to step away from the stage temporarily to focus on recovery.

Despite the unsettling nature of NPH, Joel is determined to manage the condition with grit and optimism. "I know a lot of folks are worried about me, but I’m doing alright," he shared in a recent interview. "It’s a bit scary, sure, but I’m not on death’s doorstep. I just want everyone to know I’m handling it."

Speaking on a podcast with Bill Maher, Joel opened up about how the condition has thrown off his balance, likening himself to a "boat" rocking on unsteady waters. He even quipped about initially blaming his past drinking habits for the issue, though doctors remain puzzled about the exact cause of NPH. "They call it a brain disorder, which sounds way worse than I feel," he added with a touch of his signature humor.

NPH, a condition more common in those over 65, results from a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the skull, putting pressure on the brain. Treatment often involves surgery to implant a shunt for fluid drainage, and Joel is following medical advice, including physical therapy, while canceling tour dates to prioritize his health.
