Yet, this tragedy underscores the persistent risks in China’s chemical industry, coming mere weeks after a national workshop urged better management of hazardous materials.
Over 230 first responders rushed to the scene, where the devastation echoed past incidents: a 2015 Tianjin explosion that killed 173 and a 2019 Yancheng blast that claimed 78 lives. As investigations unfold, questions linger about whether safety reforms are enough to prevent these recurring tragedies.
