Florida bans fluoride in public water with SB 700, prioritizing choice and transparency in a bold health policy move.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a groundbreaking law, SB 700, stripping local governments of the power to add fluoride or other medical additives to public water supplies. The move, part of the expansive Florida Farm Bill, champions individual choice and health transparency, aligning with the national Make America Healthy Again movement. At a Tallahassee press conference, DeSantis declared, "Fluoride in our water is forced medication. People deserve informed consent."

This isn’t a total fluoride ban—Floridians can still buy fluoridated water from private suppliers. But the law ensures the government won’t decide what flows from your tap. State Senator Keith Truenow quipped, "In Florida’s heat, we crave pure hydration, not a fluoride cocktail." Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson echoed the sentiment, stating, "Our water will hydrate, not medicate."

The legislation reflects growing skepticism of top-down medical mandates, fueled by COVID-era distrust. DeSantis criticized elites "jamming" policies on citizens, insisting the burden lies on them to justify such measures. The law also bolsters Florida’s agriculture, introduces consumer transparency rules, and curbs environmental practices targeting farmers.

Critics argue fluoride prevents tooth decay, especially in kids. Yet, DeSantis, backed by State Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo’s concerns about fluoride’s effects on pregnant women and children, insists on the right to opt out. As Florida draws a line in the sand, the debate over personal freedom versus public health rages on.

DeSantis turning Florida’s taps into a fluoride-free zone is peak Sunshine State swagger. Why sip a chemical chaser when you can just hydrate? Next up, he’ll ban sunscreen to ‘let the sun decide’!
