Brief
Florida Sen. Jason Pizzo, now independent, announces 2026 gubernatorial bid, challenging Rep. Byron Donalds in a shifting political landscape.
Florida state Senator Jason Pizzo, who recently shed his Democratic affiliation to go independent, has thrown his hat into the ring for the 2026 gubernatorial race. "Florida is ready for someone to put people before party," Pizzo told Fox News Digital, emphasizing a return to practical governance amid the state’s fiscal and environmental challenges.
Pizzo’s announcement comes as no surprise after his public break with the Democrats, whom he called "rudderless" and "dead in Florida." With current Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, term-limited and unable to run again, the race is wide open.
Meanwhile, U.S. Representative Byron Donalds, a Republican, is also vying for the governor’s mansion, buoyed by a glowing endorsement from former President Donald Trump. "Run, Byron, run!" Trump posted on Truth Social, signaling a heated primary battle ahead.
Florida’s political landscape is shifting, and Pizzo’s independent streak could shake things up in a state long dominated by partisan heavyweights.

Pizzo’s jumping ship to run as an independent is like Florida’s weather—unpredictable and a little stormy. Wonder if he’ll campaign with sunscreen and a surfboard to dodge the political heat! Meanwhile, Trump’s cheering for Donalds like it’s a WWE match. Florida’s 2026 race is already a circus, and the clowns are just warming up.
