Kelsea Ballerini Shuts Down Fans' Anti-Morgan Evans Chants: 'We're Three Years Past It!'

Kelsea Ballerini is drawing a line in the sand when it comes to her ex, Morgan Evans. The country star recently paused a concert to address fans who were shouting less-than-kind words about her former husband.
During her performance at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida, Ballerini, 31, stopped mid-song to call out fans who were yelling obscenities about Evans, 39. This happened during her song "Penthouse," which many believe is about their relationship and subsequent 2022 divorce after five years of marriage.
In a TikTok video, you can see Ballerini singing, "It hurts putting s--- in a box / And now we don't talk / And it stings rolling up the welcome mat / Knowing you got half." After the line "you got half," the music stopped, and some fans apparently took that moment to shout, "F--- you, Morgan!"
Ballerini, with a slight smile and shake of her head, responded, "Guys, we have to stop saying that. Seriously, we’re three years past it, everything’s fine now. I sing the song for you now, it’s not about me anymore, please." She then asked the crowd to sing along if they were "moving forward with their life," and continued the song.
Some TikTok users pointed out that this isn't a one-time thing. Apparently, some fans have been using that pause in "Penthouse" to hurl the same profanity at Evans during other concerts. One fan commented, "For everyone who doesn’t know — people say ‘F You Morgan’ during the pause. She has asked multiple times for people to stop. She is healed and wants to move on." It seems like Kelsea is handling this with grace, but I can imagine it's got to be a bit awkward for her!
There's concern among fans that Ballerini might stop performing "Penthouse" altogether if the insults continue. The song is featured on her EP "Rolling Up the Welcome Mat," which was inspired by her divorce and released on Valentine's Day in 2023. She's currently on a nationwide tour promoting her 2024 album "Patterns."
Ballerini, who is now dating "Outer Banks" star Chase Stokes, has even updated the lyrics to "Penthouse" as she's moved on. Originally, she sang, "I kissed someone new last night / But now I don’t know where you’re sleeping, baby / We got along real nice, until I wanted out, now I know you hate me."
But she changed it to: "I kissed someone new last night / And now I don’t care where you’re sleeping, baby." Good for her for taking control of her narrative!
She debuted the new lyrics while touring with Kenny Chesney and later posted a TikTok video, writing, "‘Penthouse (the healed version).’ I think I’m gonna keep the lyric swap, yeah?"
Editor's Comments
It's great to see Kelsea advocating for respect and moving forward. It's a mature response, showing that healing and personal growth are possible even after a public breakup. Her willingness to evolve the song's lyrics also reflects a positive step in her journey.
