Police are investigating targeted vandalism against Tesla vehicles in California amid a nationwide surge. Authorities and owners express concern as attacks escalate, prompting increased law enforcement action.
Police are currently on the hunt for two suspects following the vandalism of two Tesla vehicles in separate incidents in a California community. These attacks come amidst a worrying surge in targeted violence against Tesla vehicles nationwide.
One of the incidents involved a Tesla Cybertruck parked in a neighborhood driveway. Security footage from Novato Police Department reveals the suspect, dressed in black and wearing a white face mask, scouting the area around 4:20 a.m. last Saturday. An hour later, the suspect returned armed with a concrete rock, covering one of the truck’s cameras with duct tape before smashing the windshield and slashing all four tires. The suspect left a handwritten note for the owner, stating, "replace all tires, unsafe to drive." Bold move, but vandalism isn’t exactly how you get your safety concerns addressed!
The truck's owner, Jason Bedell, expressed outrage and alarm over the targeted attack, saying, "To come to my house and plan an attack like that, that person’s dangerous and needs to face consequences for what they’ve done." Bedell, who is understandably shaken, added that he’s worried about further attacks, especially with his family and young son living at home. He has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Another Tesla vehicle was vandalized recently in the same area, according to police. Bedell described the crimes as "shocking" and "really unusual," and unfortunately, his sentiments echo broader concerns as Tesla vehicles become frequent targets. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has even labeled these violent acts as "domestic terrorism," vowing severe consequences for perpetrators and their accomplices.
Nationally, the FBI has stepped up efforts to address this troubling trend, forming a task force to crack down on violent Tesla-related attacks. Recent incidents include Cybertrucks set ablaze at a Tesla showroom in Atlanta, suspicious devices discovered at a dealership in Texas, and a man arrested in Las Vegas for torching cars at a Tesla Collision Center. It's a messy landscape of hostility and destruction.
Adding to the drama, anti-Elon Musk protesters took to the streets worldwide over the weekend for a "Global Day of Protest," targeting Tesla showrooms, vehicles, and charging stations. Bedell, however, thinks the vandals are barking up the wrong tree. "All these people who have frustration against the government and Tesla and DOGE are taking it out on the wrong people," he said, pointing out that many victims are working-class individuals and even Democrats who bought into EVs for their environmental benefits. A little irony for you!
Tesla has yet to respond to requests for comment, but one thing's clear: this escalating wave of vandalism is pushing law enforcement, vehicle owners, and even Tesla itself to their limits.

It’s hard to miss the irony here—protesters supposedly angry at Tesla and Elon Musk end up hurting regular folks who likely bought their EVs to be socially responsible. If you want to make a statement, maybe don’t start by smashing up your neighbor’s driveway centerpiece! Also, the handwritten note? A bizarre touch that adds a sprinkle of absurdity to an already unsettling act.
