Texas A&M mascot Reveille X undergoes eye surgery for glaucoma, expected to recover by fall. Learn more about the beloved collie's journey.
Texas A&M's cherished mascot, Reveille X, affectionately dubbed the "First Lady of Aggieland," has undergone a significant medical procedure to address a serious health issue. The beloved collie had her right eye removed following a diagnosis of glaucoma, which had caused noticeable discomfort and cloudiness in her vision, according to university president Mark A. Welsh III.
The decision to proceed with the surgery was made with utmost care, especially after veterinarians detected abnormal tissue in the affected eye. Thankfully, the procedure went smoothly. President Welsh shared the heartening update that Miss Rev has been discharged and is now resting comfortably, on the road to recovery.
For those unfamiliar with Aggie lore, the Reveille tradition stretches back to 1931, born from a serendipitous encounter when cadets rescued an injured dog and brought her onto campus. Her habit of barking at the morning bugle call earned her the iconic name. Reveille X, who has been a sideline staple since 2021, even gets around campus in style aboard her custom golf cart, known as Rev Force One.
While Miss Rev will take a well-deserved break from her duties during recovery, her veterinary team is optimistic. They anticipate her return to full mascot form by fall, ready to cheer on the Aggies, patrol the campus, and keep those pesky squirrels in check. As Welsh put it, she’ll be back to 'cruising and cheering' in no time.
Texas A&M wrapped up last season with an 8-5 record under the leadership of first-year head coach Mike Elko, and the Aggie spirit—embodied by Reveille—remains as strong as ever. Here’s to a speedy recovery for this four-legged icon!

Well, folks, Reveille X is proving she’s tougher than a Texas summer! Losing an eye to glaucoma? That’s ruff, but she’s still the top dog at A&M. I bet those campus squirrels are breathing easy for now, thinking they’ve got a break—until Miss Rev rolls back in on Rev Force One, one-eyed but twice as fierce!
