Frito-Lay recalls select Tostitos Cantina tortilla chips due to undeclared milk allergen, affecting under 1,300 bags in 13 states. No allergic reactions reported so far.
Frito-Lay is voluntarily recalling a limited batch of its Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn tortilla chips due to the presence of an undeclared milk allergen, the company announced this week. If you're thinking, "Nacho cheese chips hiding in plain sight?"—you're not far off.
The recall impacts fewer than 1,300 bags of 13-ounce chips sold across 13 states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and several others. The company explained that some bags might contain nacho cheese tortilla chips, which could pose a risk for individuals with milk allergies or sensitivities.
"Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product," Frito-Lay clarified in its statement. So far, no allergic reactions related to the affected chips have been reported—phew!
Consumers who purchased the chips starting March 7 should take note of the "guaranteed fresh" date of May 20 on the packaging. While the product is safe for those without dairy allergies, the warning is clear for anyone with even the slightest sensitivity.
This marks the second recall for Frito-Lay this year. Back in January, the company pulled certain bags of Lay's Classic potato chips distributed in Oregon and Washington due to the same undeclared milk issue.
Frito-Lay, headquartered in Plano, Texas, is a subsidiary of PepsiCo. While their snacks are usually a source of joy, these recalls are a reminder: not all surprises are welcome, especially when it comes to allergens.

I mean, accidental nacho cheese in your tortilla chips sounds like a dream come true for most of us, but for people with milk allergies, it’s a nightmare. Frito-Lay seems to be having a rocky year with dairy-related slip-ups—one more and we might have to crown them 'Monarchs of Milk Mishaps.'
