A tragic plane crash in Russia’s Far East has claimed the lives of 48 individuals, leaving a nation in mourning. The ill-fated An-24 passenger plane, operated by Siberia-based Angara Airlines, went down on a hillside south of its intended destination, Tynda, a town near the Russian-Chinese border.

According to the country’s Emergency Situations Ministry, search teams discovered the burning wreckage amidst dense forest, a haunting image of scattered debris and rising smoke captured by state media. Regional Governor Vasily Orlov confirmed the devastating loss of all passengers and crew on board, including 43 passengers—five of whom were children—and several crew members. In response, he declared three days of mourning for the region.

The flight, which originated from Blagoveshchensk, lost contact during a second landing attempt under challenging weather conditions, as reported by the transport prosecutor’s office. Initial aerial inspections grimly suggested no survivors, a heartbreaking reality now confirmed.
