Trump endorses Rep. Andrew Garbarino despite his absence in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act vote, signaling GOP unity for 2026 midterms.

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday to throw his weight behind several House Republicans up for reelection, including Rep. Andrew Garbarino of New York, despite his notable absence during a critical vote on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The bill, a cornerstone of Trump’s legislative agenda, squeaked through the House last week, but Garbarino missed the roll call, reportedly because he was catching some Zs.

Trump’s endorsements also spotlighted Reps. Troy Downing of Montana, Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania, and Bryan Steil of Wisconsin, each earning a personal nod from the president. With Republicans clinging to a House majority, these endorsements signal Trump’s intent to shore up support ahead of the 2026 midterms, a pivotal moment for his second term.

Garbarino’s no-show on the bill vote raised eyebrows. House Speaker Mike Johnson chalked it up to bad timing, saying Garbarino 'didn’t make it in time.' Garbarino, however, insisted he was a key player in the bill’s negotiations, fighting for Long Island families by pushing to lift the SALT cap. 'I was moments away from voting yes when the vote closed,' he said, expressing frustration but doubling down on his support for the legislation.

Johnson praised Garbarino’s behind-the-scenes hustle, calling him a 'trusted and talented' colleague whose efforts were crucial to passing the bill. Garbarino, in turn, thanked Trump for the endorsement, calling it an honor to serve his district. As the bill heads to the Senate, Garbarino’s looking forward to another shot at voting yes—hopefully with better timing.

Garbarino missing the vote because he was napping? That’s a new one! Maybe he dreamed he was on the House floor, waving the SALT cap flag. Trump’s still got his back, though—guess loyalty counts more than an alarm clock in D.C.!
