Palm Beach County votes to rename Southern Boulevard as President Donald J. Trump Boulevard, joining other U.S. presidents with named roadways.
In a move that’s sure to spark both cheers and jeers, Palm Beach County commissioners have unanimously voted to rename Southern Boulevard, the scenic route leading to Mar-a-Lago, as President Donald J. Trump Boulevard. This decision places the current commander-in-chief in the company of other U.S. presidents immortalized in asphalt across the nation.
The roadway, a frequent backdrop for Trump’s motorcade and enthusiastic supporters waving flags, connects his lavish Palm Beach estate to the international airport. It’s a fitting tribute, supporters argue, for a president whose presence has left an indelible mark on the region. Yet, the decision isn’t without precedent in Palm Beach County. Former President George H.W. Bush has a street in Delray Beach named after him, while Barack Obama claims two roadways: President Barack Obama Highway in Riviera Beach and Barack Obama Boulevard in Pahokee.
Nationwide, naming roads after presidents is a time-honored tradition. George Washington leads with the most streets bearing his name, followed by Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson. Modern presidents like John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and Obama also have their names etched on highways and boulevards from Chicago to California. Reagan, for instance, has a turnpike in Florida and a trail in Illinois, while Kennedy has an expressway in Chicago. Even Trump already has an avenue in Hialeah, Florida, and a stretch of highway in Oklahoma named in his honor.
But the renaming isn’t a done deal yet. Florida law requires approval from West Palm Beach and Palm Beach, as Southern Boulevard crosses both municipalities. If approved, the new name will cement Trump’s legacy in his home state, though it’s sure to stir debate in a county with roads named for both Republican and Democratic icons.

Renaming Southern Boulevard for Trump? Seems like Florida’s roads are turning into a presidential popularity contest! Next, they’ll name a cul-de-sac after Mar-a-Lago’s golf carts. Wonder if the road signs will come with gold lettering?
