Authorities are investigating the suspicious death of a Yosemite Hospitality employee found with severe injuries in staff housing at Yosemite National Park. Investigation is ongoing.
Federal authorities are investigating a tragic and puzzling death at Yosemite National Park after a woman was found with severe injuries inside staff housing last week, the National Park Service announced.
The 34-year-old victim, a Fresno, California resident and employee of Yosemite Hospitality, was discovered on March 20 in concessioner housing within Yosemite Valley. Park law enforcement rangers responded to a medical emergency call and found her gravely injured. She was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries the following day, according to Tony Botti from Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
While initial findings haven’t definitively pointed to foul play, park rangers noted that the circumstances surrounding her death might be suspicious. "We at the Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation to see if it is indeed suspicious," Botti told reporters. However, he added, "Nothing lends itself to that at this point." The investigation is ongoing.
The National Park Service is working alongside the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California and the Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office to piece together what happened. At this time, the U.S. Attorney's Office has not provided further comments on the case.
This tragic incident comes amid other unsettling events in national parks, highlighting the unpredictable and sometimes perilous nature of these remote areas. The ripple effects of this investigation are bound to raise questions about employee safety and security in national parks.
