Florida State University cancels all home athletic events and classes through Sunday after a deadly campus shooting leaves two dead and several injured. Investigation ongoing in Tallahassee.
Florida State University (FSU) has canceled all home athletic events through Sunday in the wake of a tragic on-campus shooting that left at least two people dead and six others injured. The university announced the cancellations Thursday, underscoring a community still reeling from the chaos that unfolded in Tallahassee.
"All Florida State athletics home events through Sunday, April 20, have been canceled," the school stated, promising updates for events scheduled the following week. This sweeping decision affects some of the university's top teams, including a highly anticipated three-game baseball series against Virginia and the No. 4-ranked softball team's final home series of the season against Georgia Tech.
Spring football practices weren’t spared either, with the last two sessions called off. It’s not every day you see the entire FSU sports calendar wiped clean—especially with the Seminoles riding high in national rankings. But, as anyone can see, safety comes first, even if it means empty stadiums and silent fields.
Classes have also been canceled through Friday as students and staff grapple with the aftermath. University police described the situation as an "active scene" earlier in the day, working to "get it under control." By the afternoon, FSU reported that the threat had been "neutralized," though some areas of campus remain an "active crime scene." Law enforcement, including the FBI, is still heavily present as investigators work to piece together the events.
At least one person is in custody, though officials haven’t confirmed if this individual is the shooter. The campus and the wider Tallahassee community are now left searching for answers—and a sense of normalcy.

When a university famous for its sports legacy cancels every game and practice, you know things have gotten seriously out of hand. It’s almost surreal to imagine the Seminoles’ stadiums standing silent on game day, but nothing puts life’s priorities in sharper focus than a tragedy like this.
