Anthony Bernal, ex-aide to Jill Biden, faces House Oversight Committee in probe over Joe Biden’s mental fitness and autopen use allegations.
In a development straight out of a political thriller, Anthony Bernal, a former senior advisor to ex-First Lady Jill Biden, arrived on Capitol Hill Wednesday for a sworn deposition before the House Oversight Committee. The closed-door session, which kicked off just before 10 a.m., saw Bernal tight-lipped as he dodged reporters on his way in.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., didn’t mince words about the stakes of this probe. "We’ve got some critical questions on the table," Comer stated, hinting at concerns over who authorized the use of an autopen for executive actions and whether Joe Biden was mentally fit to make decisions during his tenure. Comer’s investigation is digging into allegations that Biden’s inner circle may have concealed signs of his mental and physical decline while in office—a claim Biden’s allies staunchly reject.
Bernal, once dubbed the head of the "loyalty police" by fellow staffers in a recent book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, was compelled to appear after skipping a previously agreed-upon interview. This marks him as the fourth former Biden aide to face House GOP investigators, following a brief and evasive deposition by Biden’s ex-physician Kevin O’Connor, who invoked the Fifth Amendment on nearly every question.
Comer remains optimistic about getting answers, stating, "I fully expect Bernal to cooperate." Yet, with executive privilege waived by the Trump administration for Bernal and others, the tension in this unfolding saga is palpable. As this investigation heats up, the nation watches to see if the curtain will be pulled back on the inner workings of the Biden White House.

Well, folks, if politics were a soap opera, this deposition would be the season finale cliffhanger. Anthony Bernal walking into that room is like a knight entering a dragon’s lair—except the dragon is a committee armed with subpoenas and questions about autopens. And speaking of autopens, who knew a fancy signature machine could stir up more drama than a reality TV reunion? If Comer’s right, we might find out if the pen was mightier than the president’s presence. Stay tuned—this plot’s thicker than my grandma’s gravy!
