Tulsi Gabbard's Senate warning about terrorist takeover in Syria proves accurate as Al Qaeda-linked forces commit mass killings, endangering minorities and raising international alarm over regime change.

Tulsi Gabbard’s warning about a terrorist takeover in Syria during her Senate confirmation hearing is proving eerily accurate, as reports of mass killings and atrocities by Al Qaeda-linked forces emerge. The carnage underscores the grim reality of a regime change that has left minority groups like Alawites and Christians in peril.

More than 340 civilians—predominantly from the Alawite minority—have been slaughtered in just two days, according to Rami Abdulrahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Reports from the Al-Ghab plain reveal horrific acts, with militants proclaiming their intent to eradicate entire communities, including small children.

Gabbard, during her confirmation, had criticized U.S. leaders for cozying up to Islamist extremists, bluntly stating, "I hate Al Qaeda." Her comments now resonate as Syria falls under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a group led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, a jihadist with ties to atrocities against American soldiers.

Witnesses from affected regions describe harrowing scenes of Islamist militias storming homes, executing civilians, and looting communities. One Alawite woman recounted being held at gunpoint while militants demanded money and killed neighbors. Prominent figures like 86-year-old cleric Shaaban Mansour and his son have also been executed.

Christians in the area are not spared either; families, including infants, have been brutally murdered. The violence has left survivors feeling abandoned and unsafe, with many calling for international protection.

HTS, now aligned with Syria’s interim leadership, toppled Bashar al-Assad’s regime—a government dominated by Alawites. The group’s leader, al-Sharaa, claims to pursue "remnants" of the old regime in a bid to consolidate power, but his administration is already marred by widespread violence and instability.

The U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres recently met with al-Sharaa, discussing Syria’s future amidst ongoing massacres. Critics argue that al-Sharaa’s terrorist past cannot be erased with a mere change of wardrobe, and question the U.N.’s willingness to engage diplomatically.

Saudi Arabia and Turkey have condemned the violence, while Israel has vowed to defend the Druze population and maintain security zones in southern Syria. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz slammed al-Sharaa, calling him a "jihadist terrorist" responsible for horrifying civilian attacks. Katz warned that any threats to Israel or its allies would be met with force.

Alawite activists in Europe estimate over 4,000 deaths in coastal regions, documenting mass murders and pleading for international intervention. There’s a growing call for the U.N. to establish protection zones to safeguard minority communities.

The situation exposes the brutal reality of Syria’s new leadership, where deep-seated vendettas and extremist ideologies overshadow efforts at governance. Tulsi Gabbard’s stark warnings about the dangers of legitimizing Islamist groups now seem less like rhetoric and more like an ominous prophecy fulfilled.

It’s hard not to marvel at how Tulsi Gabbard managed to see this disaster coming while the world played blindfolded. The idea that a former Al Qaeda terrorist can lead a nation and suddenly be trusted with diplomatic ties is like asking a wolf to guard the sheep. The horrifying stories from Syria’s minority groups are chilling reminders of what happens when ideology trumps humanity. Meanwhile, it’s a little rich seeing nations like Turkey and Saudi Arabia suddenly condemning violence when their own fingerprints aren’t entirely absent from Syria’s mess. Let’s hope the international community wakes up before this gets even worse.
